Lidl Unveils Plans for a $100 million Georgia Facility
Lidl revealed it intends to invest $100 million in a new distribution center that will also incorporate the company’s regional headquarters in Cartersville, Georgia, according to an article in CP Executive.
The firm will create 250 new direct jobs over the next five years. By next summer, the retail giant intends to open roughly 100 stores along the East Coast, creating a total of 5,000 jobs.
Lidl is known as a discount grocer which focuses on stores with a small footprint, the chain is marketing itself in the U.S. as the place for top quality items at the lowest price.
The Cartersville facility will be Lidl’s fourth regional headquarters and distribution center. Lindl operates more than 10,000 stores in 28 countries.
Plans filed to kick off Georgia Avenue redevelopment
Plans have been filed in Atlanta to kick off the redevelopment of Georgia Avenue, a collection of low-rise buildings in Summerhill near the former Turner Field, according to a report in the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Construction is likely to start in October or November. Tenants could start opening in spring or summer 2018.
A joint venture of Carter, Oakwood Development and Healey Weatherholtz Properties owns the buildings along Georgia Avenue. It paid $3.2 million for the property.
The plan is to add other new buildings along the avenue that blend in with the historic structures. The tenant mix will likely be heavy on food and beverage. There are high hopes that top chefs and retailers will find Georgia Avenue to be an affordable, authentic space in an up-and-coming intown neighborhood.
Amazon expands in Buckhead-doubling its office footprint at Terminus 200
Amazon is expanding in Buckhead, doubling its office footprint in one of the submarket’s toniest office buildings, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
The expansion is said to be driven in part as Amazon grows its A9 Atlanta team. Amazon quietly opened an Atlanta office for its A9.com subsidiary, following its acquisition of local visual search startup Partpic late last year.
Amazon’s cloud computing services business, or AWS, currently occupies 20,000 square foot office on the fourth floor at Terminus 200. Amazon will also take more than 23,00 square feet at an Atlantic Station office tower employing nearly 150 people.
