Tips To Keep You Moving At Work.

Do you spend majority of your time in an office space sitting behind a desk and staring at a computer screen? This is something the majority of us are all too familiar with. Maybe you have even heard that “sitting is the next smoking”…but can sitting be that bad for you? The answer to that is, yes! It has been proven that sitting for long periods of time can lead to a shorter life span, as well as heart and health problems in the future. Thankfully, there are a few easy tricks to keep you moving and on your feet throughout your work day!

While you are sitting, try to get up every 10 minutes even if it is just to stand up behind your desk. This will help keep you energized and the blood flowing throughout your body. If you feel silly standing up that often, keep your trash can and other utensils you use on the opposite side from you. This will ensure you have to physically get up to throw something away. When you have to make a phone call, do so while taking a walk around the building. Another tip that can help you from sitting all day is to take your lunch break outside and squeeze in a short walk after you eat. Furthermore, there is nothing wrong with doing a few invisible exercises– such as leg and calf raises– under your desk. You could even do a few squats while you are waiting for the elevator. Simply just bouncing your leg while you sit will help keep you more focused and has been proven to burn a few extra calories. Lastly, if you really want to keep moving at work, try to pack a workout clothes every day. This will help motivate you to go for a long walk after work, or get that gym membership you have always wanted. These tips will help make sitting at work a relief and could benefit your health in the long run.
